Using Pinterest for Inspirational Designs

Do you have a Pinterest Board? Have you created a profile on this social networking site? If you are not aware, Pinterest is partly a social network that allows users to pin images with links for some of their favorite likes.  Users can pin products, photos, sayings, or anything they find interesting or inspiring. I believe it is the future for inspiring creative minds.

Pinterest users can create inspiring, humorous, strange or fun boards by posting the images in collections. For designers looking for inspiration, Pinterest is a great starting point.

Discover the latest trends by following boards that interest you. There are many categories available including Home Decor, Architectureand Design. See what others are doing in your industry. Look at some of the best practices when it comes to furniture layout. How are others doing?  Some of the panoramic views and photos are similar to what designers see everyday in Architectural Magazines. There are commercial office plans, home remodeling projects, new and antique furniture, and so much more. Pinterest is an eclectic compilation of products, dreams, and inspiration from all walks of life.

Imagine a big melting pot of all things possible, there you’ll find Pinterest.

I find some great ideas on the Pin Boards. The creativity that others express is simply intangible. Once you find something you like, you can share it with others by “repining” it.

It’s simple to use and some of the photos are breathtaking.  As a designer, I’m always thinking outside the box.  My mind is rethinking and redesigning all the time.  By looking at what others are doing, I find more ideas. I’ll test the layout. I’ll mix it up and I’ll play with those ideas. That is what inspiration does. It creates more ideas from other ideas. The ideas spur off of one another. In a way it becomes a team effort in such an anonymous way.

Check out Pinterest today.  Follow the boards that appeal to your style.

If you don’t have a profile set up yet, you’ll have to request an invite. Just go to their website and request one or login and start browsing. The inspirational ideas are endless.
